Hector’s Incredible Recovery

A client’s much-loved family dog has made an extraordinary recovery after discovering a 10cm wooden kebab skewer hidden inside a wound.

Hector, normally a lively and cheerful companion, was brought into our care after suddenly becoming unwell. Initial blood tests were carried out straight away, and over the following days, his owners noticed a lump developing on his side. The swelling soon changed in appearance before bursting open, revealing a concerning wound.

Already under our care, Hector was examined by vet Joanna, who sedated him to investigate further — and made a remarkable discovery. Protruding from the wound was a sharp piece of wood, which turned out to be a full kebab skewer measuring around 10cm long.

This was certainly an unusual case and quite a surprise when Joanna realised what it was. Amazingly, the skewer had missed all of Hector’s vital organs. He was incredibly lucky.

Hector underwent surgery to check for any internal damage, and after some recovery time, he’s now back to his happy, playful self.

Thanks to swift action, careful monitoring, and expert treatment from the team at Milton Keynes Veterinary Group, Hector has made a full recovery and is once again enjoying life to the fullest.
