Tips for caring for your pets during the winter month: Small Furries
We are entering some wintery months ahead and to make sure your pet continues to be in the best health, here is some advice during this season.
- Make sure your rabbit or guinea pig has access to a fresh water supply and regularly check their supply hasn’t frozen
- Make sure your small furries have a good supply of clean and dry bedding, consider adding a little extra bedding on those colder nights to help them keep toasty. It is a good idea to raise the hutch off the ground to prevent the base becoming too cold and damp if possible
- Be prepared to move them somewhere that can protect them from the elements – this could be a shed, garage or utility room. If you do move your pets indoors, make sure not to put them too close to a heat source (e.g. radiator) as they can easily suffer from heat exhaustion
- Please do not house your pets in a greenhouse or conservatory as the temperature in these environments can vary dramatically
- Be prepared! In winter we never know what the weather might do, make sure you have enough food and supplies of medication for your pets if colder weather or snow is forecast
